The island of dreams…

Where to even start?? Yesterday we went out on a boat trip for a full day with the boat from the hotel and as much as I love being out on the water, this was a rough one!

So what we wanted to do was to visit one of the islands outside of the one we are currently at. This island is one of the first thing I sw when I started looking in to Madagascar and it was one the main things I wanted to see.

They told us it’s around a 90 min boat ride one way but with lots of waves and a stop for dolphins it took us around 2 hours to get there. Getting close to the island the only thing you could see was the crystal clear blue waters and white shining sand, it was beautiful! This island is very special and a true paradise and is called - Nosy Iranja.

ABOUT NOSY IRANJA

This island is split in to two small islands with a 2 km long sand stretch in between that you can only walk on at low tide. The biggest one is where you have your base while visiting. You will get an amazing local cooked sea food lunch, can shop your souvenirs from the locals and enjoy a coconut on the beach. They have a beautiful lighthouse viewpoint (which we were too lazy to walk up to, as I rather fly the drone around) and you actually have locals living on this island full time. Completely isolated from the rest and all supplies needs to come from their own land or by boat.

The other island (the small one) is privately owned and it had the only hotel with a few bungalows but that is now shut down. This small island is famous for its giant turtles laying eggs at night and if you are lucky you can see the small ones coming alive running down to the water. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see that but we saw the signs the put where the turtles has been laying eggs to keep track of it all so we definitely saw there is a lot.

Approaching the island with the boat wasn’t the easiest because for the wind so in the we had to go around from the other side to get closer to the beach, then our captain turned the engine off and walked us in, dragging the boat behind him, Haha there are always solutions!

We enjoyed an amazing day here and its white sand is just WOW!

The way home was a lot more rough but the first 45 min was the easy start. We headed for another island to see all 3 kinds of lemurs they have here and they were nicer and cuter than I expected! As tourists do - we fed them with bananas to get them close and some of them even jumped up on the shoulder!

The next 1,5 hour was a mission! I’m happy we had a good captain cus that water was rough and it was not the easiest tour his had either, for sure. Other bigger boats were passing us in speed and we had to go very slow with our tiny little boat in the massive waves. Let’s say it was a bumpy ride and we were happy when we came back to land again, all try (almost) and tired but still smiling.
