Homeless & handicapped

Updated: Dec 20, 2024

Yesterday was all about relaxing and doing nothing (just what we need). We took a beautiful sunset walk and luckily I brought the camera with me because we found a nun with 10 kids playing on the beach and I asked if I could take photos of them. She said yes and told me the story that they are all homeless and handicapped but are being well taken care of at a house (she points to a house on the beach just behind us) and says they get operations if needed and they do all they can for them but the place is purely running on donations. At first the kids looked at me with a questioning look but as soon as I started going with the camera the were all climbing on me and dancing in front of the camera. I love taking photos of kids in Africa because it bring so much joy and happiness to them, they all want to be a part of it, they all want to see the results in the camera and it is an instant ice breaker to get close to these beautiful children.

It's so sad to see these kids being homeless and having the difficulties they have but to see them so happy and smiling anyway just warmes my heart. I really enjoyed taking some pictures of them and we also gave them a donation before leaving and got a number where I could share my pictures with them so I will do that. I send them all my love, hope and energy and will forever carry their smiles with me.

Today we have had a day of fully doing nothing as we both don’t feel 100% well but we are getting there. Typical when you’ve had a stressful period at home and then go on vacation, you get ill. But there are no other place we would rather be in than just here and tomorrow it is time to change hotel. It has been a week of relaxing and understanding we are on a holiday and we are both excited to now see a new place.
